If you’ve been walking down King’s Road lately, you might have noticed something new lighting up Chelsea’s skyline. The Gaumont’s restored façade now features Cascade, a stunning ceramic artwork by British artist Shezad Dawood.

The Gaumont, King’s Road’s exciting new cultural and social hub, will be buzzing with its arthouse cinema, rooftop bar, independent boutiques, and creative spaces and now it has a new eye-catching feature, two giant ceramic panels that shimmer by day and glow by night.

Cascade pays tribute to the site’s history as the Gaumont Palace Theatre, where early film pioneer Georges Méliès’ A Trip to the Moon once played. The artwork shows full moons drifting through a night sky, with sculpted fireworks frozen mid-burst. As the sun moves, shadows dance across the panels, a nod to classic filmmaking tricks.

Dawood’s design draws inspiration from local legends like Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley, Vivienne Westwood, and Mary Quant, capturing the creative spirit that makes King’s Road so unique.
