Hands up, who’s become a sourdough aficionado over lockdown? Well, we have good news to help you continue your sourdough legacy as lockdown ends. New kid on the block Fortitude Bakehouse has opened its third store at 55 King’s Road, specialising in innovative sourdough baking. And it’s sure to inspire some new bakes (or plenty of impromptu lunchtime trips).
While you’ll find the likes of sourdough baguettes, seeded light rye and probiotic yogurt soda bread on offer, this craft bakery’s incredible selection goes far beyond perfectly risen sourdough loaves. There are also loaf cakes, sticky buns, morning buns and copious savoury options on the menu, including the award-winning Berber omelette with harissa. All ready to be washed down with a single-origin coffee from Hasbean, or Stonerolled tea (made in the same traditional way as matcha, between two hand carved granite stones).
And, Fortitude’s eco-credentials aren’t shabby, either. Online and telephone orders are delivered in two little electric vans, while they operate a no-waste policy at the bakehouse itself. They also use a power-saving coffee machine and recycled serving dishes in-house, which has enviably chic and rustic sustainable interiors, using natural finishes and beautiful plants from Urban Botanica.
Find them now at 55 King’s Road. We predict they’ll become your new bread and butter!
