The New Black Vanguard at Saatchi

The New Black Vanguard at Saatchi

Friday, 28 October 2022 – Sunday, 22 January 2023
Tickets: £10

The Saatchi Gallery have announced ‘The New Black Vanguard: Photography between Art and Fashion’ will be on view from 28 October 2022 – 22 January 2023. Opening during Black History Month, make sure you book your tickets.

Presenting artists whose vibrant portraits and conceptual images fuse the genres of art and fashion photography in ways that break down long-established boundaries, and created by American writer and critic Antwaun Sargent, the exhibition includes selected works from 15 ground-breaking contemporary photographers including Nadine Ijewere, Tyler Mitchell and Daniel Obasi.

The fresh perspective works celebrate Black creativity and open up conversations around the representation of the Black body and Black lives as subject matter. Seeking to challenge the idea that Blackness is homogenous, the pieces on display serve as a form of visual activism delivered by emerging talents who are creating photography in vastly different contexts, from New York to Lagos or London, and present new perspectives on the medium of photography and the notions of race, beauty, gender and power.

Tickets start from £10 and are available here.
