How are those New Year’s Resolutions going? Statistically, the second Tuesday of January is the day we give up on the new habits we promised to take up. So, if yours have fallen by the wayside, you’re definitely not alone. The good news is, there’s plenty to spur you into action again on King’s Road.

Head to John Sandoe Books

Is there a better way to spend an afternoon than surrounded by fiction, poetry and coffee-table tomes? Crammed to the rafters with books old and new, John Sandoe is a literary-lover’s paradise, guaranteed to have you adding tens of titles to your new-year reading list. It’s been standing a stone’s throw from Sloane Square for over 60 years and is one of London’s foremost and best-loved independent bookshops.

To exercise more…

Try KOBOX or Soul Cycle

Offering a full-body workout using a mix of punchbag boxing alongside circuit-style exercises, KOBOX has built up a cult following since it opened its doors on the King’s Road just a few years ago. Now in a larger space, the unique boxing boutique continues to offer 60-minute workouts done in its signature pitch black rooms with UV lighting, so you won’t need to worry about breaking a sweat (which you definitely will). If you’re looking to try something else new, you’ll definitely see results from SoulCycle. It took the US by storm, and now the New York fitness phenomenon continues its London expansion as SoulCycle comes to Chelsea. Promising ‘45 minutes to go all out, connect with your body, and recharge your soul’, expect pumping music, candlelight and energetic instructors to keep you motivated when it opens in early 2020.

 To eat more sustainably…

Be inspired by Adam Handling at Ugly Butterfly
Accomplished chef Adam Handling has proven that luxury and sustainability can go together with his latest restaurant venture, Ugly Butterfly. Turning ingredients destined for landfill into delicious dishes, the five most-wasted foods: eggs, bread, butter, milk and bananas, feature most heavily on the menu. Try the likes of ‘reformed’ doughnuts – made with leftover bread and overripe fruit jam – broccoli stalk Caesar salad or lobster shell soup, all washed down with Champagne.

To buy less…

Learn to make your own at The Fashion School

If you’re planning to shop more responsibly this year, you may have mournfully banned yourself from a regular Zara fix in Duke of York Square. But it needn’t be goodbye for ever… The Fashion School will not only equip you with ways of creating your own pieces but will give a through grounding in sustainable fabric choices you can apply when you do treat yourself to a spot of shopping. The weekly classes will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to create garments that blend seamlessly with your current wardrobe. Classes run on Tuesday evenings and at various times during the day on Wednesdays and Thursdays – bring a project or current item you’d like to update and expert teachers will guide you through the process.

Prices start from £26.50 for a trial class.
