The Chelsea History Festival is back for its fourth year from 20-25 September, kicking off with an exciting programme of events that bring history to life that feature family activities, history walks, complimentary open days and talks for everyone.

The National Army Museum, the Royal Hospital Chelsea and Chelsea Physic Garden will blend together a brilliant roster of storytellers and performers, world class speakers and authors to celebrate our history and its continuing significance on our lives today.

Festival highlights

  • Journalist and author Anna Reid will host ‘A history of Ukraine: past and present’. Journey back over 1,000 years as she draws on her longstanding knowledge of the country
  • Join a 40th anniversary concert to celebrate Sir Michael Morpurgo’s powerful story of humanity and friendship, War Horse
  • Official BBC historian, Robert Seatter, and Simon Potter will present BBC at 100 on 24 September, marking the centenary of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)
  • History Street returns, bringing its immersive experience to Burton Court where expert living historians will bring to life London’s incredible past. Train in medieval combat at the Plantagenet period Sword School before travelling down the street to meet Tudors, Georgians and 17th Century citizens of London. Meet with solders serving in the First and Second World War, before returning to the present day to meet soldiers currently serving the British Army
  • The History Tellers at the National Army Museum have a series of performances planned; from dinosaurs to Dunkirk, children and adults alike will have their imaginations captured from live shows that recreate historical moments
