Antique dealer Ed Butcher, renowned for his expertly curated collection of mid-century furniture, lighting, art and curios on the King’s Road, is currently presenting a stunning exhibition of works by leading contemporary artist Sara Pope, on display until the end of May.

Sara Pope is known for her ultra-glossy, pop paintings of lips. With a background in fashion as a shoe designer, as well as experience in magazine design and art direction, she brings a distinctive, polished aesthetic to her work.

Focusing on the expressive power of the mouth, Pope reimagines portraiture through striking lip studies, capturing the individuality and sensuality of her subjects. Her process begins with an in-depth photographic study, exploring the form, texture and character of each subject’s mouth, which she then uses as the foundation for her painting. Using oil-diluted paint, she builds richly blended surfaces that echo the sleek perfection of high-end advertising.

Pope’s work has been exhibited widely in London and internationally, and is held in prestigious collections, including the Vatican Collection. She has received commissions from notable figures including royalty and cultural icons, cementing her reputation as a globally recognised artist.

These pieces have to be seen to be fully appreciated, so do pop into Ed Butcher and experience them for yourself.
