Soane Stable Yard

Soane Stable Yard

Discover The Soane Stable Yard, nestled in the historic grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea and the newest spot to add to your weekend agenda.

Beautifully refurbished and originally designed between 1814-17 by the renowned architect Sir John Soane, the Yard was once home to 25 working horses, nine carriages, and quarters for stable boys and coachmen. Today, it houses the Chelsea Pensioners Museum, a Café by Heidi Bakery, a charming shop and a Post Office, plus an Activity Room, and the Veterans Outreach Centre.

For an autumnal day out, book your free visit here to the interactive Chelsea Pensioners Museum and uncover the rich history of the Royal Hospital and the incredible lives of its iconic residents, the Chelsea Pensioners. Afterwards, indulge in the delightful offerings at Heidi Bakery Café, where you’ll find an array of homemade pastries, cakes, savouries, and salads, alongside specialty coffee and artisan teas. Before you leave, be sure to browse the shop for unique gifts and souvenirs, with all proceeds directly supporting the Royal Hospital Chelsea and the Chelsea Pensioners.
